This past Saturday, Nyhus participated in the Public Relations Society of America Puget Sound Chapter’s Jumpstart event through sponsoring, speaking, and conducting mock interviews. The daylong annual workshop, meant for aspiring public relations professionals, including career transitioners, recent graduates and students, featured presentations and networking opportunities. Professionals and students traveled from as far as Alaska and Idaho to attend this year’s event.

Nyhus Senior Account Executive, Kyle Mahoney, and I spoke on the “Small vs. Large Agency” topic for Jumpstart’s “Day in the Life of a PR Professional,” comparing our work at Nyhus with previous experiences at Weber Shandwick and Edelman. We spoke to small groups of attendees in five rotating sessions of 20 minutes each. “Day in the Life” topics presented by other companies included technology, issues and advocacy, and international.

Kyle also held mock interviews with three attendees. I served on the volunteer planning committee for the event and was one of a handful of professionals to attend the post-event social at the Red Door, organized by Puget Sound PRSA’s student outreach committee. Nyhus Creative Services Director Whitney Keyes, through her classes at Seattle University, had taught most of the students with whom I spoke to at the social.

Nyhus’ sponsorship and volunteer work at Jumpstart and PRSA aligns with our values of volunteering and junior staff empowerment. We’ll keep you updated as we continue to connect with aspiring public relations professionals through our involvement in Jumpstart.
