Nyhus Team Helps Form Community for Young PR Professionals; First PRSA YoPro Event this Wednesday
Thanks to the Nyhus team and a few other communications professionals from Microsoft and PRSA Puget Sound, there’s a new community in town designed for young PR professionals. A branch off of the Puget Sound Public Relations Society of America, PRSA Young Professionals (YoPro) is a community designed to connect young professionals with likeminded PR pros. It’s no secret that Seattle is home to a wealth of innovate companies and talent. PRSA YoPro is designed to help tap into this wealth knowledge and enable it to flow freely among other new PR practitioners.
The initial chapter kick-off will be this Wednesday at Brave Horse Tavern in South Lake Union from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. At the onset, quarterly events will be established for young PR Pros to have a forum to relax and connect with other professionals in the area – an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day workflow.
The group was created in part due to a conversation that occurred between Roger Nyhus, our President and CEO, and Kathryn Reith, the outgoing president of PRSA Puget Sound, at last year’s Totem Awards. During the event, they discussed their desire to create a group that provided newer professionals with the opportunity to connect easily with other PR professionals. They both acknowledged that the network already existed, but it wasn’t being fully utilized because of barriers that had been unconsciously put up between veterans of the industry and newcomers. Nyhus’ very own YoPros Cameron Bays and Angi Ramos saw this as a chance to give back to the PR community; they seized the opportunity and worked with other PR YoPros to organize and coordinate this event.
Guests are encouraged to RVSP before the event on the Puget Sound PRSA Young Professional Facebook page. There will be specials on drinks and food offered throughout the event. Roger Nyhus will be making a special appearance at the event to share tips and advice with new communications professionals.
We hope to see you there!
