Kym Allen
Director of Public Affairs

Kym Allen is Director of Public Affairs at Nyhus, a leading, next–generation public relations and public affairs firm serving best–in–class organizations that operate at the intersection of business, government and the community.

Kym advises some of the Northwest’s leading public and private organizations, including the Downtown Seattle Association, Woodland Park Zoo, Seattle University, Vulcan Inc., and New School Foundation. She also often works in tandem with the real estate division of Nyhus.

An experienced government relations and public affairs professional, Kym has advised governors, mayors, city council members, state legislators and executives on how to be successful leaders and advocates for their priorities. She has lobbied at the federal, state and local levels and has advised on several campaigns involving international issues.

Kym’s specialties include strategic counsel, political analysis, media relations and executive and internal communications, with a proven record in coalition–building and crisis communications.

Kym has a strong understanding of local and regional issues with a track record of effectively partnering with clients and the community to develop and implement complex public policy and strategic communications plans. Her management experience ranges from nationally covered crisis communications to complex public issues with multiple objectives and audiences.

Kym enjoys the challenging issues. In her 13 years of political, public and private communications, Kym has built a reputation for tackling hard issues and getting results. She also has a strong background in research and branding, which gives her the ability to marry fundamental business pillars in the development of a strategic communications plan.

Prior to joining Nyhus, Kym was the director of communications and public affairs for Seattle Center, where she was part of the Center’s executive team. Kym has worked for the Seattle Mayor’s Office, the Seattle City Council and the Washington State Legislature. She has also successfully managed political campaigns throughout the region, including advisory roles for initiatives in England and Portugal.

Kym is a graduate of Seattle Preparatory High School and attended Seattle University through the accelerated Mateo Ricci program, in addition to attending Cambridge University in England. She holds bachelor’s degrees in political science and economics, with a minor in English.

Kym currently serves on several nonprofit boards and advises on numerous political initiatives.
