Researchers from Melbourne-based National ICT Australia (NICTA) benefited from Nyhus’ relationship marketing services during a recent business development trip to Seattle. Nyhus leveraged its connections within the local technology and biotechnology/life sciences industries to connect the local researchers with six locally based, international leaders in biotechnology, global health, life sciences and technology.

Challenge

Australia’s State of Victoria, as well as its capital city of Melbourne, is emerging as a global destination for biotechnology research and development. However, many U.S.-based biotech companies remain unaware of all that Victoria has to offer as a development destination.

Solution

Upon learning that two researchers from Melbourne-based National ICT Australia (NICTA) – one of Australia’s preeminent technology research centers with a strong focus on leveraging technology for life sciences research – planned to visit Seattle, Nyhus recommended a comprehensive two-day schedule of meetings with senior-level industry influencers in the biotechnology, global health, life sciences and technology industries.

In the weeks leading up to NICTA’s visit, Nyhus reached out to its numerous contacts and arranged meetings with six of the city’s most influential and prominent tech and biotech industry organizations. Nyhus created a comprehensive briefing book with background information on each organization and meeting attendee, arranged meals, as well as provided transportation to and from meetings and participated in the meetings themselves to record and follow-up on opportunities.

Results

NICTA met with C-level executives and researchers at the Allen Institute for Brain Science, PATH, Seattle BioMed, the University of Washington’s Life Sciences Discovery Fund, Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association and Washington Technology Industry Association. The meetings were extremely valuable for NICTA and opened the door for several future collaboration opportunities.
