Through strategic public relations and public affairs services, our mission is to passionately connect business, government and the community to improve people’s lives. Our team embodies integrity and the highest standards, consistently delivering high–quality results. Our on–target communications counsel, strong community and political connections, and the unique nature of our small, strategic firm help our clients meet their goals efficiently and cost–effectively.

OUR APPROACH

High–quality, results–oriented work
We work closely with our clients to thoroughly understand their business objectives and then develop communications strategies to meet — and exceed — those objectives with exceptional quality work.

Passion
We work for only the clients and issues we believe in. As a result, we’re always passionate about what we do.

Partnership
We develop enduring partnerships with their clients. For example, we’ve worked closely with telecommunication pioneer Craig McCaw’s ventures since 1995. We’ve supported McCaw businesses, including Teledesic, Nextel Communications and XO Communications as well as McCaw investments and charitable activities, including the move of Keiko, the killer whale, to Iceland and President Nelson Mandela’s visit to Seattle.

Media savvy
We’ve been journalists for some of the most respected news organizations in the world, including The Associated Press and the Philadelphia Inquirer. We speak reporters’ language and know how to shape and sell stories. Combined with our technology and financial PR experience, we have an exceptional combination of skills to offer our clients. Plus, we have excellent, established media and analyst relationships.

Value
We focus on developing the most cost–effective and creative programs for our clients, not labor–intensive efforts. We’re smart and nimble, and we shun bureaucracy.

Candid counsel
Our clients want honest, strategic counsel. We’re not shy about bucking conventional wisdom or encouraging senior executives to consider alternative approaches.

Detail–oriented
We sweat the details, so our clients don’t have to.

Strategic communications expertise
We have developed effective strategic communications programs for clients involved in commercial real estate development, hospitality, education, technology, financial services and major public policy initiatives.  Our efforts have included everything from promoting new high–rise residential projects and the Mayor of Seattle’s downtown zoning proposal to new state budgeting approaches and international trade.

Unique combination of public relations,
political and journalism experience

Having been professional journalists with The Associated Press, the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce and ABC News, the Nyhus team speaks reporters’ language and has a strong sense for how to shape and position news.  Through business, government and nonprofit leadership roles, Nyhus has established excellent media, political and business relationships in Seattle, the state of Washington and nationally.

Seattle savvy
We know how to get things done in Seattle.  Roger Nyhus has worked in the Seattle Mayor’s Office and the Seattle Associated Press bureau as well as in the downtown corporate offices of Washington Mutual, Nordstrom and Bank of America.  Kym Allen was director of communications and public affairs at Seattle Center.  Michael Graubard has extensive public relations and public outreach experience working with the City of Seattle, developers and others.  Marc Stiles was one of the region’s foremost real estate writers, having penned the well–read Real Estate Buzz column for the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce.

Creative energy
We have led several recent communications campaigns for high–profile clients.  We excel at developing creative solutions to complex communications challenges.  For example, we developed and ran the governor’s public relations campaign to win production of the new Boeing 787 for Washington state, and we helped the development community lobby for higher density development in downtown Seattle.

Proven record
We have a proven record of success for our clients and volunteer boards, including recent high–profile media coverage of the new Four Seasons development in downtown Seattle and the $1.2 billion Washington Square development in downtown Bellevue.

Experience
We have executive–level corporate, government and nonprofit experience.  You get the value of more than 50 years of combined communications and journalism experience working on your account every day.

Partnership
Our goal is to become an extension of our clients’ teams — a true partner.  For example, we had a successful seven–year partnership with telecommunications pioneer Craig McCaw’s businesses, investments and charitable activities.

Crisis communications expertise
We have extensive experience managing crisis communications in political and business settings.

Technology know–how
We’re familiar with a diverse range of technologies and technology companies, especially those in the wireless, telecommunications and Internet space.

Global sensibility
PR is an efficient and cost–effective way to reach a global audience. We apply a global experience and perspective to our PR programs.

Organic growth
Our firm has grown exclusively by word–of–mouth.

“In my previous life handling media for Craig McCaw’s companies and projects, we were fortunate enough to have the chance to launch wireless companies, move famous whales, welcome world leaders, even compete for the America’s Cup.  Each was high profile and occasionally even slightly touchy, and Roger was always there.  He provided calm in the storm, counsel from an outside perspective, hard work and creativity.  There were many days I couldn’t have gotten through without him.”
